Một chiến dịch vận động đã tập trung cả ngàn người Việt từ khắp nơi đổ xô về trung tâm thủ đô Washington của Mỹ để kêu gọi giới hành pháp-lập pháp Hoa Kỳ thúc đẩy chính quyền Hà Nội cải thiện nhân quyền trong hai ngày 5 và 6 tháng 3. Cuộc vận động đang gây chú ý công luận và chính quyền Mỹ xuất phát từ thỉnh nguyện thư trên trang web We the People của Tòa Bạch Ốc với số chữ ký kỷ lục cao hơn 5 lần so với quy định để được Tòa Bạch Ốc phản hồi chính thức, do những người Việt trẻ tại Mỹ khởi xướng đứng đầu là nhạc sĩ Trúc Hồ, Giám đốc đài truyền hình SBTN của cộng đồng người Việt ở Mỹ.
